Let’s face it, a lot of websites are really boring and hard to use. A boring website is a danger to your business because your customers may take one look and then decide to conduct their business elsewhere. No one likes to think that they have a boring website but if you are concerned that you might have a boring website, here are 5 ways to tell.
Your website was built more than 5 years ago
If you’ve had your current website for more than 5 years, your website is probably boring. Website design changes every 2-3 years and your customers expect certain things when they come to your website. They expect that they will be engaged with lots of usable content, a modern design and social features. If your website lacks any of the above, you may have a boring website.
Your customers can’t view your website on their phone
2017 research has shown that users spend more hours viewing websites on their mobile devices vs. desktop. If your website isn’t mobile friendly and responsive, your website runs the risk of being boring. Most importantly, your business could be losing valuable business during the early morning and late evening hours when customers are almost exclusively on their phones.
Your website has more text than images
We live in a very visual era. We want to be wowed and enthralled by lots of images and catchy graphics. If your website has too much text and not enough graphical elements, it’s probably boring. An image is worth much more than 1,000 words. It could be the difference between a good customer experience and a boring website.
Your website design is hard to navigate
Outdated boring websites are extremely tricky for users to navigate. If your website has sidebar menu navigation or other complex ways for users to move around your site, your website is not only boring, you will have a high bounce rate. A user should never have to click more than 2 times to get to the content they are looking for. Website navigation should be straightforward instead of similar to peeling an onion.
You are tired of your own website
If you are bored with your website, chances are your users are as well. Although it may be a bit time consuming, you should research what your competitors are doing with their websites. If their websites are less boring than yours, chances are that your customers are bouncing from your site over to your competition. Don’t be afraid to solicit opinions from your customers. You can even give incentives for honest feedback. It may be hard to hear, but if it will increase your sales, a little tough love is worth it
